The main objective of this article is to discuss the process of recognition by the Brazilian government in 1958 of the European Common Market. When announced, with the signing of the Treaty of Rome in 1957, the esta-blishment of the European Common Market prompted a harsh reaction from the Brazilian government, who led the opposition of Latin American governments, fearful of the consequences that the binding of the colonies and ex-European colonies had for their exports directed to the traditional European markets. ; O objetivo do trabalho é discutir o processo de reconhecimento, por parte do governo brasileiro, em 1958, da criação do Mercado Comum Europeu. Quando anunciada, com a assinatura do Tratado de Roma em 1957, o estabelecimento do Mercado Comum Europeu motivou uma dura reação por parte do governo brasileiro, que liderou a oposição dos governos latino-americanos, temerosos das consequências que a vinculação das colônias e ex-colônias europeias teriam para as suas exportações dirigidas para os mercados europeus tradicionais.

This article examines the priority bilateral relations of Brazil, named "strategic partnerships", both because of their tradition and historical relevance and due to the existence of political and economic cooperation projects. An assessment of these relationships, especially under Lula's administration, is made in this work, bearing in mind the concept of "strategic partnerships" and its development in Brazilian foreign policy. There will be considered partnerships with the US; Argentina; Japan; China; India; South Africa and the European Union. In the article, the meaning of the increase in these relationships is interpreted on the grounds of its significance to the international insertion strategy of Brazil.
